1 Corinthians 8:8

nBut *meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, 2are we the better; neither, if we eat not, 3are we the worse.

But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

NKJV: But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse.

ESV: Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.

βρῶμα δὲ ἡμᾶς οὐ παρίστησι τῷ Θεῷ· οὔτε γὰρ ἐὰν φάγωμεν περισσεύομεν, οὔτε ἐὰν μὴ φάγωμεν ὑστερούμεθα.

Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
